All welcome at open evening

posted 14 Sept 2016, 06:19 by Mike Brown
Monday 19 Sept at 8pm will see this year's open evening where we'll be demonstrating a range of different radio equipment and modes. This is an opportunity for anyone to find out what amateur radio is all about but also for club members to find out about new aspects to the hobby or to see modes they haven't tried.

Demonstrations planned are:

Short wave - SSB & CW (international speech and Morse communication)

VHF - FM, SSB & CW (local, UK and European communication)

Low power (QRP) and portable radio operation

Data modes - using a PC (or Mac) for BPSK, WSJT and WSPR (transmission modes for sending text etc)

Satellite - international communication using amateur radio's own dedicated satellites

Vintage radio - see a restored valve radio receiver in operation & hear about the technology

Digital radio - DMR internet-linked radio (local and international communications on a handheld radio)

All are welcome, whether a licensed amateur or not. Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be served.

Feel free to invite your friends/relatives!
