Radio Caroline special event station

posted 18 Jul 2016, 16:01 by Mike Brown
Those interested in a somewhat murky side of radio operation may be interested to know that GB5RC will be in operation from the Ross Revenge, home of Radio Caroline, from the 5th to the 8th of August. They'll be celebrating 50 years of offshore radio broadcasting, (although the current transmission facilities for Caroline all seem to be land-based).

The special event station will be active on 80m, 40m, 20m, 15m and 10m. In addition 17m and 12m may be an option if they choose to retune the 15m and/or 10m antennas. They may try to operate on 80m or even 160m using the 45m tower if they can find a way to load it. That doesn't seem likely to be easy. Unlike the original, the whole thing is grounded as all the stay wires are connected to the hull. (Why??)
